AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV 75 YEARS OF FREEDOM

Celebrating 75 years of freedom of India, the college asked everyone to dress according to the colour scheme of the National Flag. The event began by paying tribute and respect to our rich soil, with a gratified march past by the kids from Duruelo Convent High School followed by the national anthem and flag hoisting by the Chief Guest, Commander Ninand Phatarphekar. Students were dressed in traditional outfits in the colour scheme of the National Flag and the faculty was dressed in white. The event was then continued in Alberione Hall.

The show began with hosts appreciating India’s geographical features. From mountains to the sea to the dense forest, India has it all. As a remark of respect, the dignitaries were called upon to light the lamp. A graceful and impressive performance was done by Miss Zaina Kutty as she danced on Ae Watan and Teri Mitti.

To enhance the patriotic feelings, the dean, Fr. Plavendran spoke about the glory of the freedom struggle. He paid his respects to the freedom fighters and decided to compare India’s condition then and now. India’s standing on global platforms, and the international indexes were included in his speech. He influenced the students, as citizens to do their tiny bit of contribution in taking India ahead. As the dean of the media institute, he put forth a rhetorical question, “the plethora of information that we have, how do we control it, consume it and segregate it?”

The Chief Guest, Commander Ninad Phatarphekar, a naval officer veteran addressed the students. He ran from his house to become a naval officer and then ended up serving the country for 30 years. His speech included the meaning of freedom. He talked about how Indian soil has constantly been invaded since ages. Today we have a new freedom struggle. We, as a country, need to be free from malnutrition, corruption, poverty and climate change. He ended his speech by saying a verse by Gurudev’s ‘Where the mind is without fear

The final speech was delivered by our beloved dean, Ms. Carol Andrade. She greeted the students and the guests with a large smile and a warm welcome. She ignited the fire in the hearts of the pupil on how to look out for each other. She gave a reality check and asked the audience to be brave and accept their shortcomings.

The show continued with an intellectual game, wherein 4 teams of 3 each participated at random. The 1st round was a rapid-fire round and team Azadi won. The second round was won by Jai Hind and finally, the winners were team Azadi after the tiebreaker round.

A visually pleasing video was created by Riya Pereira our TYBAMMC Journalism student. She showcased the vast grasslands and the variant species of animals in India, along with famous architectural monuments like the Taj Mahal, Red Fort etc. The video ended with Indian athletes winning medals and participating in the recent Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham, England. This part earned huge roars and claps from the crowd.

Miss Kanak Swamy, the president of the student council said a few words and recited a poem.

The most awaited part of the show arrived with performances by the students.

The first performance was by Akshata from TYBAMMC, performing on Apsara Aali. The next performance was by Tanvi, performing on various songs and depicted the south Indian culture. The students of PG performed Bhangra on a few Punjabi songs. The newbies, that is the FYBAMMC performed on Dhol Baje. Nitisha from SYBAMMC showcased her Assamese folk dance, Bihu. A group of girls from TYBAMMC performed multiple songs and made the crowd go feral.

The show also had 2 singing performances. Saima from TYBAMMC sang 2 melodious songs and swayed hearts. The next performance was a duo performance. Shane and Shreya sang Vande Mataram, with Shane gliding his fingers over a piano.

The program was concluded by Fr. Renold, our Vice-principal who bowed down to the Indian flag and addressed the youth as the ‘wing and sing of the nation.’

Lastly, Habeebah from TYBAMMC gave a vote of thanks to everyone present and wished a very happy Independence day to all, closing the event and our celebration with a grand success.
